Built with urlShort: uri.is
Have you ever wanted to post something on Twitter, but found out that its over 140 characters? Of course you have. And after you discovered that, you probably considered blogging it (if you have a blog that is), and decided it wasn't worth your time. You probably resorted to multiple tweets, which quite frankly, is annoying. So what are you supposed to do then? If only there was a way to quickly and easily tweet something over 140 characters...
That's where uri.is comes in. uri.is very simple in both its idea and its implementation. All you have to do is write what you want to post on uri.is, enter your Twitter information (don't worry, its not stored and OAuth support is on the way) and off it goes. uri.is will tweet as much of your post as it can, and then display a "read more" link (like this) which displays a clean page with your 140+ character post.
The creator (@marcperton) created uri.is in a weekend, using code from the urlShort Project, a free and open-source URL shortener which Maverick Revolution manages and releases. Marc has some other interesting things he's planning to add in the future (see To Do, and uri.is' code will probably be released at some point as open-source, as urlShort is.
Oh, and if you just want to shorten links like a regular old URL shortener (although you could just run your own) uri.is does that too, although there is no API available for developers at the time of this post.
