Spotlight : World of Goo

World of Goo is developed by 2D Boy.

World of Goo by developer 2D Boy is one of the most polished independent game to come out in recent history. The gameplay centers around gelatenous gobs of 'Goo' which are stretched and pulled into structures, typically with the goal of reaching a new area, or completing some machine.

The gameplay is deceptively simple, rock solid and intiutive. There are no fancy guides or tutorials required, and while the game provides hints via the cryptic 'Sign Painter', rarely are they necessary to continue. World of Goo feels right, and the mechanics are as addictive as your typical Bejeweled / Puzzle Quest type game. However, World of Goo goes far beyong the addicting gameplay. Goo has an entertaining, often humerous narrative that lightly weaves throughout the gameplay and art in such a way that the levels themselves seem surreal and engaging.

But what really sets World of Goo apart is the exceptionally high production values. Gorgeous artwork and design accompanies an excellent, mood setting soundtrack that perfectly complements the game world. This title feels like a release that a major production studio would create, and yet the entire game was developed by 2D Boy, a tiny independent game studio in San Franciscom who meet in "whichever free wi-fi coffee shop they wanter into on a given day."

World of Goo features more than fourty levels, each wildly creative and unique. Additionally, as you progress throughout the game, your accompanied by many different types of Goo balls, some of which can be used in combination with others, to keep fresh.

World of Goo is available on Windows / Mac / and Linux platforms directly from the developer 2D Boy and free demos are available for download for each platform. World of Goo is also available on the Nintendo Wii as WiiWare.
